CannaLyfe – Nice Things Naturally.
Cannalyfe is a socially responsible clothing and product company with a focus on providing our customers with a truly viable, eco-friendly alternative to commercially produced manmade products. Forget polyester, acrylic, nylon, rayon, acetate, spandex, lastex, orlon and Kevlar! Synthetic (chemically produced) fabrics are made by joining monomers into polymers, through a process called polymerization.
Chemicals used to make synthetic fabric include sodium hydroxide and carbon disulfide, which are derived from coal, oil, or natural gas. By purchasing CannaLyfe products you are actively supporting a movement away from harmful synthetic products which are non-biodegradable and destructive to the environment, to all natural products which have multiple applications and are much more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Welcome to the Canna~Lyfe family!
Bamboo is a grass. It grows like a weed and is the fastest growing plant on earth. It can grow up to 36” in a 24-hour period. It needs no assistance from pesticides or insecticides, and it usually grows on rain water alone. Imagine the strength and durability of this crop. It’s at The top of the food chain where crops are concerned. The Lion of the jungle so to speak. Yes it’s true, bamboo generates more oxygen than trees.
We are confident our bamboo shirts will be the most comfortable you have ever worn. Bamboo is Light, strong, soft to the touch, and requires less dye compared to cotton. Bamboo fabric absorbs moisture away from your skin, keeping you drier. Bamboo is one of the fastest renewable resources, growing incredibly quickly, and using about 1/3 less water than cotton to grow. Bamboo fabric also has insulating properties and will keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Hemp or industrial hemp, typically found in the northern hemisphere, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 10,000 years ago. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.
Industrial hemp is also a grass. It is a weed and grows like one. Like bamboo, it needs no chemical assistance to thrive. It has no need for pesticides or insecticides, and it feeds on rain water. Industrial hemp offers great performance: hemp fibers are durable, provide UV protection and wick moisture. Believe it or not, Until the late 1930s, hemp was widely grown and was America's fiber of choice.
Hemp is an exceptionally strong, durable, eco-friendly fiber. Hemp is grown organically and doesn’t require insecticides or pesticides. This fabric has the feel of flannel and typically softens with age. Our hemp apparel line includes 60% hemp and 40% organic cotton for a silky soft feel
Organic Cotton is raised without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. How is this done? Farmers use composted manures and cover-crops to replace synthetic fertilizers. Innovative weeding strategies are used instead of herbicides. Beneficial insects and trap-crops are used to control pests. Its production also promotes and enhances biodiversity and biological cycles, Cotton and water. organic cotton is usually rain-fed, not irrigated, so it consumes a lot less water.
Organic Cotton Apparel
Organic Cotton Apparel is one of our eco-friendly apparel options. Traditional cotton farming accounted for over 10% of total pesticide use and nearly 25% of insecticides used worldwide creating concern for drinking water supplies, wildlife, and the environment. While organic farming of natural cotton fiber is more expensive compared to traditional farming, it saves pesticide and herbicide use, soil and water degradation, and also wildlife.
Gossypium barbadense, also known as extra-long staple (ELS) cotton, is a species of cotton plant that has been cultivated to have extra-long staple fibers - longer than 34 mm (1 3/8"), that are associated with high quality products.
Pima cotton is different from the cotton most of us know. Its fibers are long, strong, and have a natural luster. Our supplier, ONNO started experimenting with pima fabric in 2015, and have come up with a t-shirt that looks, feels, and performs differently. We think most of you will be happy in Cannalyfe's organic cotton t-shirts.
